Check and Replace Your Hand Held Heat Welder Element

| 0 comment(s)

If you notice that your hand welder takes longer to weld, only partially welds or has stopped welding completely, you may need to check and replace a heating element. Here's how to replace the element on your Leister Triac, BAK Rion or RACE hand-held heat welder:

  1. With the tool unplugged and cooled, remove the four mounting screws that hold the heater tube to the hand piece.
  2. Pull the heater tube away from the handle.
  3. Slide off the mica tube.
  4. Remove the gasket.
  5. Once the heating element is exposed, firmly grasp it in one hand and the Leister, BAK or RACE handle in the other, and gently rock back and forth until the element comes off.
  6. Visually inspect the heating element for cracks or burn marks.
  7. Check the air filter and the heating element for blockages that may be restricting air flow.
  8. If the heating element appears faulty, you'll need to replace it with a new one.
  9. To install a new element, or reattach the existing one, align the element prongs with the hand-gun sockets and plug the it into the hand piece. Firmly press together until snug and reassemble the tool.
