    How To

    • Unplug the RiOn heat gun and allow it to cool completely. Disconnect any accessories and clear the work area.
    • Remove the current power cord and motor brush assembly: disconnect the old 14 AWG/120 V cord, remove the brush springs and old motor brushes, and discard safely.
    • Remove the existing heating element and mica tube: open the housing, slide out the old element and mica tube, then insert the new heating element and mica tube from the kit in their correct orientation.
    • Install the new air-intake filter from the kit: open the intake cover, remove the old filter, insert the new filter, and secure the cover. Re-connect all new components: attach the new power cord securely, reinstall motor brushes and springs, re-assemble housing, and verify all fasteners are tightened and no loose parts remain.
    • Test the heat gun: plug in the tool, switch it on, let it warm to full operating temperature, verify air flow and heat output, and listen for any unusual noise—perform a short weld test on scrap material before returning to full service.

    FAQs

Q: What does the BAK RiOn Tune-Up Kit include?
A: The kit includes a new heating element, mica tube, 10-foot 14-gauge 120 V power cord, motor brushes set, brush springs set, air intake filter and a step-by-step instruction manual.

Q: Why should I perform a tune-up on the BAK RiOn heat gun?
A: Regular tune-ups restore optimal airflow, heat output, and reliability by replacing worn parts (like brushes, element and cord) that degrade over time and affect performance.

Q: How often should I use the tune-up kit on the RiOn?
A: For a heat gun used regularly in commercial roofing or seaming work, a major tune-up is commonly performed every 500-1000 hours of use or when you observe reduced performance, inconsistent heat or noisy motor. (Industry practice)

Q: Are the parts in the kit genuine OEM components?
A: Yes — the kit uses genuine OEM parts specifically for the RiOn model (KIT #5100726M) and is designed to refurbish the tool to like-new condition.
