Description
The Tramex DSAL Dec Scanner is a mobile, non-destructive impedance scanner built for surveying large roof areas for excess moisture and leaks. It utilises a low-frequency signal through a rubber electrode mat to detect and map moisture conditions in roofing and waterproofing systems. The instrument features three sensitivity ranges to accommodate varying roof membranes and insulation thicknesses and enables rapid coverage of areas up to 100,000 sq ft in a typical day.
Key features:
-
Non-destructive impedance moisture scanning with no surface damage
-
Three sensitivity ranges for diverse roof coverings and insulation thicknesses
-
Analog comparative scale with up to six-inch (152 mm) depth penetration
-
Rugged, mobile design suitable for day-time roof surveys without special licence

How To
- Remove the base unit from the carry case, attach the handle and mount the control panel.
-
Ensure the electrode mat is firmly secured, check batteries, and power on the instrument.
-
Select the appropriate sensitivity range for roof membrane type and insulation thickness.
-
Move the Dec Scanner across the roof in a systematic grid pattern, maintaining contact and monitoring the needle on the analog dial.
-
When a relative-dry area is identified, adjust the set-point, then map and document areas of raised moisture values for further investigation.
FAQs
Q: What roof types can the DSAL Dec Scanner handle?
A: It accommodates a variety of roof membranes and insulation thicknesses by offering three sensitivity ranges, suitable for thin single-ply, multi-ply built-up and heavy gravel-surfaced roofs.
Q: How deep into a roof system does the DSAL measure?
A: The DSAL provides penetration of up to approximately 6″ (152 mm) for detecting moisture beneath roofing membranes.
Q: Does the DSAL damage the roofing surface?
A: No, the DSAL uses a non-destructive impedance method and does not require drilling or surface penetration.
Q: Is a special license or training required to use this scanner on roofs?
A: No, the DSAL can be used during normal daylight hours without regulatory restrictions or special operating licenses.
